I can't explain it but I've been obsessed with woodworking and making things for as long as I can remember. I'm mostly self taught but I have also taken furniture making courses at the Kansas City Art Institute. Woodworking is not my full time job. It's just fun that I happen to take a bit too seriously.
- I use power tools for first cuts and hand tools for precision work.
- I prefer wood joinery over metal fasteners.
- I avoid standard manufacturing thicknesses such as 3/4"
- When in doubt, I borrow ratios from nature and classic furniture to ensure my pieces have the right, nice looking, proportions
-I put a lot of extra time into making sure grain patterns match up nicely where two pieces join together. I believe it's a hallmark of quality in hand made pieces.
